Ahhh, It's good to be back. I would do a book list but it I haven't been reading much lately and the ones I have read are The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Lord of the Rings which hardly count since I have read them thousands of times before. I also have been watching more movies than normal in my Survey of Classic American Films class. A long title for a simple class, we watch movies, then analyze them. It's so much fun! Anyway so let's get on with the list.
The Film that most changed Film
Citizen Kane
Directed by Orson Wells
Okay so this movie can be terribly depressing since the main character dies in the first few seconds of the movie. But that it what makes this film so unique. Charles Foster Kane's (the main character) story is told through other people. Not only that but it has amazing shots. Flashbacks. One of the first films to be told in non-chronological order. The characters age throughout the film. It's a beautiful film, that didn't win Best Picture, although it should have.
The Most Creative Film
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Directed by Kerry Conran
This is a movie like you've seen before. Okay, well maybe some of it you've seen but definitely not all (otherwise the director would have had to get the rights and so on) First of all it's a Sci-Fi film that takes place in the 1940s. It's all shot on Blue-screen, even though it doesn't look like it all. And you never know what some gizmo or person is going to do next. It's also quite humorous.
Film that will most likely have you say "Huh? That doesn't make sense! What were they thinking?"
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Directed by Steven Spielberg
I can not say why this film gets this award because it will give away most of the movie. However, trust me, it does win this award. Check it out for yourself... if you dare...
Best Animated Feature
WALL-E
Directed by Andrew Stanton
This film by far wins best animation, (it'll probably win the Oscar too, keep your fingers crossed) The animation is so... beautiful and alive. I don't know how they did it, but they were able to make a robot come to live with his expressions. WALL-E doesn't have to say anything you can tell what he's thinking by his... facial... (I guess) expression.
Most Surprising Ending
The Illusionist
Directed by Neil Burger
Once again I can not tell you why, by this film wins. Watch it, watch it twice, because you probably will have to. (Also check out the lighting and Cinematography... amazing)
Most like Real Life
Dan in Real Life
Directed by Peter Hedges
Yep, it even says so in the title, it is like real life. I was watching this movie half thinking if they had gone to our house. It's real and it's real funny too.
Most Happy/Sad... but mostly sad
Jakob the Liar
Directed by Peter Kassovitz
This is a good movie. With a good story, a movie you should watch. Although be careful there is a German version in German that's not as good.
Most likely will make you want to Dance and Sing
Singin' in the Rain
Directed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen
Yep, this movie will make you want to laugh, sing and dance, preferably in rain. It's an awesome movie, great.... everything... what more can I say?
Best Example of how not to live your life and Most dislikable main character
Gone with the Wind
Directed by Victor Fleming
Despite the awards I gave it, this is a great film. It won best picture, best cinematography, best costume, best actress, and probably a lot more that I'm forgetting. Although be forewarned, it is a long good movie. If you're going to watch you have to commit to it. But it is worth it.
...well I think that's it... there are more good films out there but unfortunately only Best Picture is good enough for them.
